President Obama getting airborne from an excitable guy.

THE BEAR HUG

So Conservative Talk Radio is railing about the Bear Hug that President Obama got from the Pizza Man in Florida. I had to turn the radio off tonight when the guy subbing for Michael Savage was screaming about the dignity of the office and the Presidency itself. Some people were even saying it was staged. If it was, it was brilliant. And if the Secret Service was in on it, then I’m relieved. But the GOP can’t have it both ways. You can’s say the Pizza Guy was demeaning the Presidency when you had Clint Eastwood up there at your convention talking to a chair and implying that President Obama was telling people to “go *** themselves.” (He has Biden to say that for him with unabashed glee!) Again, you can’t have it both ways.
After camping out in Bangor Cartwright had a meet and greet in Pen Argyl during his trip. Here Cartwright speaks with a voter. Cartwright’s wife Marian looks on.

CARTWRIGHT’S TRIP

While many politicians in Lulac land were sent up the river the last two years, 17th Congressional candidate Matt Cartwright tried his hand at going down the waters. In an effort to raise awareness of the tremendous environmental threats that face the Eastern Pocono region, to preserve the pristine water source, and promote tourism in this vital region, Matt Cartwright and some friends of the environment embarked on his Protecting and Understanding our Resources and the Environment (PURE) Canoe Tour on the Delaware River. The trip departed from the Shawnee Inn on Friday and ended in Easton on Sunday. Canoe paddlers will camped in the vicinity of the river in camps during the trip. Throughout the weekend, Matt made remarks on the importance of preserving our pristine waterways, and his plans to protect the environment,

MARINO DUMMIES UP

The Phil Scollo campaign for Congress in the 10th Congressional District says that according to press reports, Rep. Tom Marino avoided multiple calls for comment by the Scranton Times-Tribune on his vote to gut billions of dollars in funding for Tobyhanna Army Depot, endangering hundreds of jobs at our region's largest employer. In a recent letter to House Appropriations Subcommittee chairman on defense, U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA), who represents parts of Central Pennsylvania, said of the defense appropriations bill: "Ultimately, we believe this legislation as it currently stands will cripple the ability of depots and arsenals to support our soldiers during a time of war," Mr. Shuster wrote. "The cuts ... will cause an estimated 3,000 layoffs of specialized technicians (who) cannot be easily replaced or retrained if workload returns to its normal rate." Additionally, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) wrote a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee chairman seeking remedy for the Tobyhanna cuts as well. Marino has yet to officially request any changes to the bill and has stayed largely silent and actively dodging reporters' calls. Marino did however defend his vote in an August 9th radio interview, saying they were "the right thing to do." "Marino's vote would potentially take billions of dollars out of our local economy and put hundreds of local jobs at risk at the Tobyhanna Army Depot," said businessman Phil Scollo, Marino's opponent. "Our region's unemployment is higher than the national average, and Marino is down in Washington voting against local jobs - jobs that support our armed forces no less. It is almost impossible to imagine that our representative could be so callous and dismissive of our current economic situation. The rest of us are struggling to make ends meet and he doesn't care."
Phil Scollo left Wall Street to start a small business in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He learned hard work and public service early from a New York City Fire Fighter, his father. His business, a management-consulting firm, has served all types of organizations from global corporations to small businesses and government agencies. Phil has lived in Dingman Township, Pennsylvania since 1998 with his wife, Karen. He is the proud father of three
